NOT a photo but SAD SAD news from the muster A state police trooper and a second unidentified person who were replacing a flat tire on an antique fire truck Sunday afternoon near the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge were electrocuted. Both were apparently killed instantly when the ladder touched a live electrical wire, carrying a current through the truck, according to Ogdensburg city police. Dead is Trooper Shawn W. Snow, 47, a 19-year member of the state police, according to Major Richard C. Smith, Jr. who spoke to the Times at Troop B Headquarters in Ray Brook. Authorities have not identified the other man but say he is a 51-year-old resident of Canada. The accident happened about 4:40 p.m. The two men were pronounced dead at 5:27 p.m. by St. Lawrence County Coroner Russell Lawrence. He said autopsies will be done at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica. Police say a truck heading to Canada was towing an antique fire truck when it had a flat tire on the road approaching to the bridge. A state trooper volunteered to help replace the flat tire. The trooper was under the truck at the time fixing the tire. The truck’s boom was extended. When the truck was lowered the boom hit a live wire, killing both men immediately. Police have not identified the driver of the vehicle. They have not released the name of the trooper until they can notify next of kin. Police have not removed the bodies or the truck yet as they are waiting for an accident reconstruction team to arrive. National Grid has shut off power in the area so the U.S. Customs Department is using a generator. The bridge is closed and traffic is being diverted to the Thousand Island and Seaway bridges. Markings on the ladder of the truck read, "Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation." www.cfff.ca/The truck has Quebec plates. On the door are the words Monti-Joli Region 4." On the smaller fire truck art the words "Bytown, Ottawa." It has been in Syracuse to appear in this weekend's event sponsored by The Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America.

NEW YORK STATE TROOPER KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY ALONG WITH CIVILIAN KILLED IN ACCIDENT WITH ANTIQUE CANADIAN FIRE APPARATUS:
State Police have identified a trooper killed in the Line of Duty yesterday as 19 year veteran Shawn Snow but the name of the 51 year old Canadian man also killed has not been released. Both were electrocuted near the Ogdensburg Prescott International Bridge late yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. The accident involved an antique fire truck returning to Canada after participating in a fire show in the Syracuse area. The fire apparatus got two flat tires on the access road to the bridge and the State Trooper stopped to help. The ladder on the fire truck had to be raised to level the antique fire truck out. While a jack was being used to raise the fire truck to fix the flat tire, the ladder lowered striking a 7,620 volt power line. It is unclear whether the ladder slid or the driver hit the button to lower it. The trooper and the man driving the truck were both electrocuted and died instantly. The man driving the fire truck was returning home to the Ottawa area. Markings on the ladder of the fire truck say Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation. A smaller vehicle being towed by the truck has Bytown, Ottawa written on it and the trucks license plates are from Quebec.

The open cab ALF-Thibault aerial truck that is in the photo set above is the truck that was involved. Ironically, the truck is lettered for the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation, where the victim was a former director. His name is Chief Pierre Surprenant, Ottawa (Canada) Airport FD (Ret.).
