The Hughestown Hose Co. will be celebrating 100 years of service on September 12, 13 & 14. In conjunction with the picnic, the fire Department will also be hosting the 78th Annual Convention of the Northeast Pennsylvania Volunteer Firemen’s Federation. The event will be held on the Fire Department Grounds located at 30 Center Street in Hughestown. The firemen’s parade is being dedicated to the memory of 1st Lieutenant Jeffrey DePrimo, who lost his life serving our country in Afghanistan. Grand Marshal of the parade is Senator Raphael Musto, Pittston Twp. and Honorary Grand Marshal is Fire Commissioner Edward Strubeck, Hughestown. The parade will begin promptly at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 13. Line-up for vehicles will be at the Pittston Commons on the James Musto By-Pass. Marchers are asked to meet at the corner of Atwell Drive and Center Street. The parade will continue down Center Street to the Martin L. Mattei Middle School on New Street. There will be a memorial mass at Blessed Sacrament, Rock Street, Hughestown, beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday in remembrance of all the firefighters who have lost their lives while serving their communities within the last year. The picnic will feature homemade food, including Potato Pancakes made with the original Hughestown Hose Company recipe. There will also be live music, rides, games, vendors and much more. On Friday, Compelling-N-Rich will be playing at 7 p.m.; Saturday will feature Flaxy Morgan at 7 p.m. with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.; and Sunday Abilene will take the stage at 6 p.m. Jenneric and Third Degree will be featured throughout the weekend. Third Degree will play from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Jenneric will play from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The picnic grounds will open at 5 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
