from central pa forum:
The Tri-County Fire Muster is a day filled with events focused towards fire companies and private owners of fire apparartus that allows everyone to have a day filled with fun, relaxation, and fire-company related drill events. This year will be the 22nd annual Fire Muster (held by the Liberty Fire Co. of New Berlinville in Berks County). This event has historically been focsued toward Eastern and Southeastern PA and while the Muster has changed locations, games, and events over the years (within our Boyertown area), the Muster has continued to grow. While I have been the Chairperson over the past 6 years, I am always willing to consider input in regards to making the Muster better than ever.
In the past, we have had participation and judging the the following areas:
- - Fire-Department and Privately-Owned apparatus
- - Fire-Department Drill Teams, competing in the following games over the years:
* Water Rocket Battle
* Beach Volleyball
* Tug-Of-War
* Bowling Pin Squirt
* Gear Dress Competition
* Deck Gun Squirt
* Bucket Brigade
as well as many other games.
- - Privately owned (antique) apparatus displays
- - Vendor displays ("Firematic Flea Market")
- - Dog competitions (Best appearing dalmatian, "wanna-be" dal, costumed dog)
- - Public Safety Displays (Smoke-houses, children-friendly activities, etc.)
While the games and activities have changed over the years, the numbers of companies attending has grown. Therefore, I am asking anyone to comment on the following:
1) What (in your mind) would be interesting for you (and your family) that would make you want to attend, or keep attending, the Muster each year?
2) Are you a company who does not receive (or who's officers and/or company do not notify your personnel) about the Muster? PLEASE NOTE that I do not have accurate mailing information for certain counties (i.e. Schuylkill, Lehigh, Northampton, Delaware, and certain portions of Montgomery, Bucks, and Chester)
3) If you are a privately-owned apparatus owner, what categories would you like to see for judging?
4) What drill team games would you like to see? (This includes fire companies as well as Explorer groups, private owners, children, dogs, etc.) NOTE: I am willing to hear ideas for games that either have been previously done as well as ideas for new games....
5) What other family-oriented activites would you like to see that will keep everyone in your family happy and occupied throughout the day?
6) How would you like the day to progress more quickly (i.e. reducing the drill team competitions to keep the day moving better)?
7) If your company has attended Musters in the past, what is keeping you from attending Musters in the future (i.e. day lasts too long, unfair judging, other circumstances)?
8) If your company has NEVER attended a Tri-County Fire Muster before, why?
I now have a committee of people committed to make the Muster bigger and better than it ever has been. BUT WE NEED YOUR INPUT TO MAKE IT BETTER. I strongly urge everyone to provide some input - because it can't give everybody an opportunity to have a day of relaxing fun WITHOUT YOUR IDEAS! Remember, this is a Non-Profit event with limited funding.
We truly want to give everyone a day of relaxation and competitive fun away from the day-to-day volunteer firefighting. So if you're a company who attends every year - why not invite your neighboring company(ies) out for a little "competitive" fun? This Muster will only grow as big as the companies who attend allow it to.
The committee will be meeting in the next month to talk about this year's upcoming Muster. Anybody's (and I mean ANYBODY and EVERYBODY'S) ideas/criticisms/suggestions will be honestly considered.
