i have heard & read about some registration problem at pa pump primers muster involving our members & some others. arriving late & being told they can parade but NOT pump. the issue has drawn some interesting posts on central pa forum :

i know for one if that would have been me paying the price of fuel & taking the time to bring 2 pieces all that way to be turned down, it wouldn't happen again, i just wouldn't return next year . just my opinions & do NOT reflect those of either chapter it annoys me is these 2 rigs were DRIVEN not trailered to harrisburg & the society is/has been a participant for many years so them being late or a no show should have been a surprise or concern to the ppp, not punish them.this person should have his attitude and ego shown where exactly it belongs and NOT in ppp anymore for him to have a second chance to do it again. this is my "personal opinion' NOT those opinions of either spaamfaa chapter

We have worked registration for the past three years. I was finishing a registration 9:35, so that crew was laterer then 4 minutes. Someone needs to check their watch and not make other people out to be the bad guys. We have been told to close registration at 9:30 not later by SPAAMFAA. If we allow people to continue registering after the shut off time we would be there all day. If you think this is an easy job maybe some of you should try it. You are giving no respect to the people who take time out of their lives so you can enjoy your day. Pre-registration helps too!!!!
Don't put others down until you have made an effort to help.

So, I have a son that just turned 5 on May 2nd. The local tee-ball association told me that the child has to be 5 by April 30th. I know how it feels to be turned away when you are "riding the fence", so to speak. There's always next year, is what we are always told. And yes, it left such a bad taste in my mouth, that I would like to tell them exactly where to go....but then it would be my son who would be missing out....My point? I guess I can see both sides to the story....rules are rules, and I know they suck, but there is always a line that is drawn somewhere and there is always a "bad guy" that has to enforce them.

I do feel horribly bad for the guys that weren't able to join us :-( Good suggestion on being proactive about this and pre-registering next year.....maybe someone that does the registration can post something on this site with contact information on exactly how to pre-register? And post reminders when it comes close next year....Unless the web site thing comes into reality by then?................

But most of all, whoever was turned away, please please please dont stop coming down for this muster in the following years? We all agree that this is a fabulous day to spend with fellow firefighters, EMT's and families, having such a great time. Please dont let this one year mess that up for you and decline to join ever again. It would certainly be a loss for us all.......

i have a copy of a letter that will make your head spin sent in reply to a letter sent to ppp about this issue. it has some rethinking their membership in ppp. it amazes me someone would drive a piece of apparatus 50+ years old to be turned away.... oh no thats not correct they were allowed to parade but NOT appear at the pumping on the waterfront!!!!
and as in the letter mentions about baby bottles & babies, who really is the child here???i know of 2 people that had planned on attending with apparatus next year BUT... will NOT now after all of this!!!


oh and i DO know exactly what goes into a muster & have helped in the past, even at ppp!!!!! & i personally do NOT know of any rules by spammfaa about closing registrations ... they have nothing in it unless its the convention. so as you say about the schuylkill county group checking watches maybe YOU better check out your FACTS too

the saga continues, now keep in mind exactly how much harrisburg & west shore fire depts do for the event for someone in the pump primers orginization to slam them in an email, here is a copy of the email:

NO BECAUSE NO ONE TOLD ME OF AN ACCIDENT SO I REALLY DON'T KNOW OF ONE. I AM NOT CALLING ANYONE A LIAR BUT A LOT OF THIS MESS COULD BE AVOIDED BY PRE REGISTERING YOUR PIECE OF EQUIPMENT THEN IF YOU ARE LATE YOU ARE REGISTERED. THE PEOPLE WHO REGISTER ARE THERE EARLY THE ONES WHO HAVE TO REGISTER WANT TO BE MINUTE MEN AND COME IN AT THE LAST MINUTE TO REGISTER. I DO GET UP AT 5:30 FOR THIS EVENT. WE ARE TOLD TO CLOSE REGISTRATION AT 9:30 THERE WERE TWO PEOPLE THERE THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS INCIDENT THAT BLEW IT OUT OF PROPORTION. THEY ARE NOT MEMBERS OF THE PPP AND SHOULD HAVE KEPT THERE MOUTHS SHUT THEN THIS WOULD HAVE BLOWN OVER BUT THEY ARE BIG HEADED BLOW HARDS THAT THING THEY ARE THE GREATEST THE ONE IS TH HARRISBURG FIRE CHIEF THE OTHER A CAPTAIN FOR THE WEST SHORE BUREAU OF FIRE. THEY ONLY COME AROUND FOR THE DOG AND PONY SHOW.

I SUGGEST THAT PEOPLE REGISTER EARLY WHICH I THINK IS 15.00 BEFORE A CERTAIN DATE AND 25.00 UP UNTIL THE NIGHT BEFORE THE EVENT AND 35.00 THE DAY OF THE EVENT. PEOPLE WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE WEATHER WILL BE THEN SAY OH I WILL TAKE IT OUT TODAY. I AM GOING TO SUGGEST THAT REGISTERING THE DAY OF THE EVENT BE 75.00 MAYBE THEN THEY WILL REGISTER BEFORE THE SHOW.

I AM JUST A MEMBER OF THE PPP NOT AN OFFICER OF THIS ORGANIZATION BUT THERE HAS TO BE RULES AND PRE REGISTRATION TO THIS EVENT WOULD HELP THE PERSON AND THE ORGANIZATION. THERE IS A LOT OF WORK BEFORE THIS EVENT AND HAVING THE PRESS AND PEOPLE ON LINE pregnant dogING SURE DOESN'T HELP OUR EFFORT. YES EVERYONE IS OLD IN THE GROUP BUT YOUNG PEOPLE ARE TOO BUSY TO HELP. SOME DAY THESE PEOPLE WILL BE OLD ALSO.

WOW!!!! What an email. I think some people need to be sitting down at a meeting and hash this whole mess out. That email can bite the PA Pump Primers Assoc in the butt. I hope this doesn't lead to the end of the muster.
Again I extend a big thanks to everyone involved with the muster. I didn't realize or know that the West Shore Bureau of Fire had a big part in the muster. I should have figured that out by the fact they supply the engine for the water games. Overall this muster is still new to me. This is my second or third time to attend it. It is also great to see the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire involved with the muster. Not alot of cities would allow this. That is one thing I find interesting at the Philadelphia Muster. Amazing to see how much the Philadelphia Fire Dept does for the show.
Again to everyone that has a hand in the muster, from assisting with the muster or attending with apparatus, THANK YOU!!!!
